Rainilaiarivony

Rainilaiarivony was a Malagasy minister born in 1828, died in 1896 in Algérie.

Biography

It replaced its rère Raharo in 1865 and directed the Malagasy State under the queens Rasoherina, Ranavalona II and Ranavalona III, which it married successively. It made important reforms (Codes of 1868 and 1881) and endeavoured to save the independence of its country by opposing one to the other France and England. It approached the British missionaries and Protestantism became the official religion, but the alarm clock of the French expansion, with Jules Ferry, brought a forwarding in 1883-1885 and one treaty of protectorate, that Rainilaiarivony tried to elude, finally the forwarding of 1894-1895 made the conquest of Madagascar and it was exiled in Algiers.
