Race Edhec Cruising

La Course-Croisière EDHEC is a Régate organized by students of the Edhec, which is held each year in the neighborhoods of the holidays of Easter. It gathers several thousands of students of various origins, generally resulting from course of higher learning (Universities of Trade and Engineers). Since ten year, it generally takes place in the ports of Brest, La Rochelle and Sands of Olonne. It is also the occasion of a sporting raid, the Trophy Ground, and various animations on the Village of the Race. The unit is filmed by ETNA, association video of the EDHEC, which proposes a report in images of each day, is called JT, diffused the evening in large the chapiteau.

The Village

The big top

Il is organized around a principal capital of approximately 1200m ², place of animated evenings but also of specific organizations, like the traditional meal with ground (3000 covers) or the Fresh Market which provides fresh food (fruits, vegetables, dairy produces) for the crews in medium of semaine.

Il can be also the place of extraordinary events, such as concerts or conférences.

The Village of the Stands

It is about a square of forty stands, held by the pupils of the schools which wish it. It is also the center of animation various such as Beach-volleyball or other animations of fair, in particular of the plays on inflatable strucures.

At the beginning of week is held the chain Ravitaillement there, where each crew profits from an food intake offered by the various sponsors of the event.

The Refreshment bar

Grand bar-terrace, it is a capital of intermediate size which offers a small scene, favourable with various events which take place in the course of the day (fashion shows, musical springboards…)

Seaber Coffee

It contains a bar, a living room, and a whole of a score of computers in free access with Internet. It is also the place where to get the photographs taken of helicopter during the course

The International Club

It is the point of meeting of the foreign crews. It can be also the gathering place organized by these crews, like the traditional scraper organized by the Suisses.

The Race

Approximately 200 boats take part in the race cruising, which in general comprises 2 to 3 handles per day (when the conditions weather allow it), with a sleeve of drive first Sunday. The courses are is Olympic (course known as " banane") with an edge with close and an edge with bearing, or coastal, i.e. marked out by geographical reference marks, such as cardinal buoys.

The race is divided of categories, dependant on the types of boats. If those Ci are sufficiently numerous of the same type, a class of monotype can be open. In 2006, the monotypie Large the Surprise, most important, counted 47 boats. For the boats owners or except class, there exists a category HN (National Handicap) where the boats have a capital of specific points to their features, which makes it possible to adjust the classification on the basis of no-claims bonus or malus of time: the race is done then not only in real-time but also with the stop watch.

The Trophy Ground

the Trophy Ground, which was with its 12th edition in 2006, is a sporting raid which proceeds simultaneously with the regatta and which on average gathers a hundred teams from 4 to 5 people. It makes it possible to the teams to furrow the neighborhoods of the town of organization and thus to discover the soil quickly of it. It contains various tests such as of Bike & run, the Canoe-kayak, the Tir to the arc, the shooting to the rifle, the Escalade or of the races of orientation. It can also comprise a night test.

History

  • 1969: Creation of the “Edhec Business School Cup” by three students of the Edhec (14 boats with Dunkirk) After Dunkirk, the EBSC turns to the Brittany and tries out various ports: Bénodet (1972-73), Pornic (74-75)

  • 1973: the event takes an international dimension with the 1st participation of foreign crews (9 nationalities and 60 boats with Bénodet)
  • 1976: the EBSC becomes the “Race Edhec Cruising” (120 crews for a race with stage joining Perros-Guirec with Guernesey)
  • 1978: the professionalism of the test is recognized: the serious one of the courses and the technical organization allows the affiliation the French federation of veil (course: Perros-Guirec - Guernesey - Saint-Malo)
  • 1979: the crews rejoin Cowes starting from Cherbourg.
  • 1980-81: The CEC is recognized as being it first sporting event coed of Europe (La Baule: 220 boats, the Trinity: 300 boats). Beginning of a true sponsoring. More and more from great names of the veil come to defy the elements, like Eric Tabarly, Olivier de Kersauson, or Alain Gautier.
  • 1986: record year: 336 boats contribute to La Rochelle.
  • 1987: creation of the “fresh market” by the Fuelling.
  • 1990: creation of the first “final” opposing the winners of each category. The village structure with the appearance of about thirty stands.
  • 1992-93: Whirlpool lance the International challenge by inviting 12 European boats, one by country of the EEC.
  • 1994: year of innovations with the launching of the Trophy Ground and the Coupe de France Students which one is success today. The 26e Course is run to Sands of Olonne by making stopover to the Island of Yeu and St Gilles-Cross-of-Life.
  • 1998: the CEC celebrates its 30e edition and gathers more than 6000 students; it is the most important frequentation ever recorded.
  • 1999: appearance of the “Seaber-coffee”
  • 2000: A israélo-Palestinian boat (“Peace Boat”) sails for peace.
  • 2001: organization, in margin of the demonstration in a concert of Matmatah which will gather 10000 people.
  • 2005: the CEC accommodates Mr. Sarkozy and Mr. Bayrou within the framework of a debate with the students on the European Constitution.
  • 2007: The Race Edhec Cruising took place with the port of the White Mill in Brest from April 14th to 21st 2007. The godfather was Olivier de Kersauson.
