Río Napo

The Río Napo is a Affluent of the the Amazon which takes its source in Ecuador on the sides of the volcanos Antisana, Sincholagua and Cotopaxi. From the Amazon, Napo is navigable for boats of " rivière" to the confluence with Río Curaray on a distance of more or less 350 km, and perhaps a little further; but beyond, one can sportivement continue in the canoe until Santa Rosa in Ecuador. The river Coca its affluent can be gone up to the place where it is boxed between two rock barriers in a deep canyon.
Ecuador and Peru signed in June 2006 an agreement to study the navigability of Napo over a 800 kilometers length between Francisco de Orellana, and the confluence with the Amazon. This bilateral agreement aims at facilitating the commercial exchanges between the north of the Brésil and Peru, Ecuador and the Colombia. .
