Gabrielle-Charlotte Réju known as Réjane (June 5th 1856 - June 14th 1920) is a French Actrice born with Paris. She is the pupil of Régnier to the Conservatoire where she receives the second price of comedy in 1874.
Réjane is initially actress, in parts with success like a father lavishes (1880) or Mrs Sans-Gêne , of Victorien Sardou (1893).
Influenced by the Free Theater, it turns then to the theater naturalist, and creates Germinie Lacerteux brothers Goncourt (1888), Parisian the of Henry Becque (1893). She also creates in France the main role of Doll's house of Henrik Ibsen (1894).
In 1895, its round in America in the role of Mrs Sans-Gêne multiplies by ten her notoriety, which becomes international, and New York made him a triumph.
In 1906 it repurchases and transforms the Nouveau Theater which will name consequently Théâtre Réjane and which will become thereafter the Théâtre of Paris. She gives to it to the first Frenchwoman of the blue Bird of Maurice Maeterlinck in 1911. She will direct the Réjane Theater until 1918.
Réjane dies on June 14th, 1920 and rests with the Cimetière of Passy.

Its relation with Marcel Proust
Marcel Proust saw Réjane on scene for the first time the evening of the first of Germinie Lacerteux . Réjane then disputed in Sarah Bernhardt the title of larger actress of the Beautiful Time. These two great ladies were used as model to the character of Berma to which dream the Narrator of To the Research of time lost . Jacques Porel, wire of Réjane, and Marcel Proust became good friends after the Great War. Réjane invited Proust to occupy an apartment in its house. The day when Proust moved in there, it accepted the first tests of the Côté of Guermantes and recreated certain features of the personality of Réjane in the fictitious character of Berma. Réjane, then old of sixty two years and seriously patient, made to a short return to the stage in the insane virgin of Henri Bataille.
