Quintin

Quintin is a common department of the Coast-with Armor, in the area Brittany, in France.

Geography

From the geological point of view, the city is located on the beginning of the granitic solid mass which bears its name and which extends on all the Brittany center.

Strategically, Quintin is with the crossing of the ways which go from Saint-Brieuc to Quimper while passing by Rostrenen on the one hand and of Guingamp/Châtelaudren with Lorient while passing by Loudéac on the other hand. To keep this node of communication, a fortress was established there, but it remained mainly unfinished.

Relative the strong slope of the river of Gouet to this place was made profitable to create a pond which was used of protection with the fortress and water tank for a mill. At the 20th century, this mill was moulted in a powerplant which functioned until a little after the Second world war.

History

The presence of Menhir S attests that the area was occupied since the Neolithic . Quintin owes its creation as of the Roman epoch with its position of crossroads of the transportation routes but it primarily developed, especially with the S, by the weaving and the trade of the fabrics of flax. Quintin which was also a monastic center has the importance today only it had formerly and which is still reflected in its monuments and private mansions.
