Quebec option

Option Quebec is a book published by Rene Lévesque in 1968 with Montreal at the Editions of the Man.

The proclamation of 6.000 words preached Quebec souvrerain inside the Canadian Confédération. It is what is called now souverainteté-association, or, the “Lévesque Option”.

Liberal party

The Liberal party of Quebec counted Rene Lévesque among his rows when this last proposed its proclamation in September 1968, one month before the congress of nomination of the party. After the original proposal, the option was rejected with great majority. Lévesque and some other members left the party.

MSA

The Movement Sovereignty-Association, directed by Lévesque, used this work in its political countryside.

Québécois party

During its formation, after the fusion of the MSA and the national Rallying of Gilles Gregoire (the Gathering for National independence will be scuttled by its chief, Pierre Bourgault, who will encourage his partisans to integrate the PQ one by one), the Québécois Party adopted with large majority proclamation like line of party for the proposal for a declaration of sovereignty-association with Canada.

These ideas of Lévesque for summer have criticized by Jacques Parizeau and Robert Laplante, which believes that the partnership with Canada must be done “de facto”. On the other hand, he affirm that Quebec will have initially to reach the full political autonomy for then joining.
