Quantum mirror

In the fictitious universe of the Televised series Stargate SG-1 , the quantum mirror , or mirror interdimensionnel , makes it possible to travel in other dimensions, where reality is faded. In spite of the possibilities offered, it must be regarded as a dangerous object.

The origin and the creators of the quantum mirror are always a mystery. SG-1 discovered it in an abandoned archaeological laboratory at the time episode 01.19, on the planet P 3R- 233.

The manual remote control of activation of the mirror was lost by Daniel Jackson in a alternative Réalité.

In the parallel dimensions met at the time of episodes 01.19 and 03.06, the Goa' uld had succeeded in seizing the Ground.

SGC stored the mirror in the Zone 51, under good guard, at the same time as of other extraterrestrial artefacts considered to be dangerous, until the Hammond general orders his destruction.

Capacities of the device

When it is activated, the mirror is a “window” opening on the place where its double - in a parallel reality is. According to the Quantum theory, there exists an indefinite number of dimensions, each one containing a version slightly different from reality. The mirror allows its operator of téléporter in any of these alternatives of universe. It is not a question of a temporal voyage. The effect is practically instantaneous. It seems to exist only one mirror. As a person coming from another dimension can cross the mirror, even decontaminated, it represents an important threat. It was not possible yet to design a mechanism of blocking similar to that of the iris which protects the Porte from the stars on Ground.

Instructions of operation

To make use of the mirror interdimensionnel, one needs a special remote control. While pressing on the principal button, one activates the mirror, and one crosses it while touching his surface. However, it is difficult to choose a specific dimension with this device. Other dimensions cannot be selected simply by seizing their address, as with the Porte of the stars. The operator must guess where its reality is located compared to other dimensions. If the mirror is decontaminated, the dimensional frequency becomes erratic, like a turner radio operator handbook left without monitoring. When the mirror is reactivated, the operator must seek among realities available to return to his.

Quantum theory

According to the quantum theory, for each quantum event observed, the Univers creates a tree structure which includes all the possible consequences. Like the junctions of a road, the universes continue to separate with each event or decision. They evolve/move in parallel, completely isolated the ones from the others. Each variation, or dimension, is a parallel reality. The mirror interdimensionnel makes it possible the user to visit any of these other dimensions. There is however a disadvantage: quans “parallel” Dr. Carter was téléportée in the reality of SG-1, it learned that if two versions of the same person exist in a dimension (other were major Carter), a cellular disordered state (or entropy) cascades about it occurs in the 48 hours, causing a temporal distortion.

Characteristics of the quantum mirror

  • Material: The mirror is placed within a framework which resembles stone, but its internal structure is probably containing naquadah.
  • Height: 2,10 m
  • Weight: approximately 980 kg
  • Creative: Unknown, although the Goa' uld got this artefact.
  • Users: Members of the SGC
  • Given complementary: It seems that the SGC, or a version of this organization, currently has the quantum mirror in many parallel realities.
