Putlog-hole and hole of putlog-hole is generally a part of scaffolding in Bois, horizontal, penetrating in the Maçonnerie by an opening under the level of the Corniche in the Immeuble S of the 19th siècle.
The hole of putlog-hole is often bored on the level of the floor of the Grenier at which the putlog-hole itself can be fixed by a clamp Métal lic.

The hole of putlog-hole is often closed again by a decorative part of Ornement with for example a reason for head of Lion or of star. This ornament can be fixed on a piece of wood short which is inserted in masonry ( circa 1830 ), or being articulated on a horizontal axis to mask the hole of putlog-hole ( circa 1870 and after ).

Commonly used, not to say essential, before the advent of the hydraulic platforms and the motorized scales, by striking a pulley for the removal of the pieces of furniture on the floors of the houses.

Element of architecture very common to XIXe in the civil Architecture in particular in Belgium and in the north of the France where it was largely exploited like element of décoration.
It is present in the architecture since highest Antiquité. The sites of the holes of putlog-hole, one-eyed or beams, marked the points where the scaffolding was fixed, thus giving invaluable indications on the techniques used.
