Punaauia

Punaauia is a common Littoral western of Tahiti, located in the Windward Islands in the Archipel of the Company in French Polynésie. This primarily residential city lays out of several complex hotel, of a marina as well as zone of activities commercial Industrie lles and of important size for the island.

Geography

Situation

The commune of Punaauia is located on the west coast of the island of Tahiti vis-a-vis Moorea in the Windward Islands in the Archipel of the Company in French Polynésie. Its climate is tropical.

Punaauia is bordering on north in the south clockwise common of Faa {{okina}} has, Pirae, Mahina, Hitia {{okina}} has O You Ra, Papara and Paea. Only the communes of Faaa and Paea are directly accessible by the road, the other communes being bordering only in mountain. The Pacific Ocean borders all the littoral.

Toponymy

Several legends exist and give various significances at the origin of the name Tahitien: Puna' auia.

To rough-hew of Puna

A legend says that a hero of the name of Puna received the assistance of a royal tortoise to carry out the crossing of Raiatea to Tahiti. Once arrived Puna cut the four ailerons of the tortoise so that it cannot set out again. It then makes a success of some time to be avenged later for Puna and did it immoler (' auia ? in tahitien).

Cultural events

The Taapuna master is an organized competition of Surf each year in September in the master key of Taapuna located vis-a-vis the town hall of Punaauia.

Economy

The single large surface of the west coast is the store Carrefour of Punaauia at the exit of the road of western diversion coming from Faa {{okina}} has.

One counts three industrial parks (ZI) with Punaauia:

the ZI of Vaipopo
the ZI of Papereu
the ZI of the valley of Punauru

One finds there industrial activities (EDT) or artisanal (Brasserie of Tahiti), but also of the commercial establishments (Banque, Undertaking,…).

Teaching

The college of Punaauia accommodates nearly 1000 pupils all confused sections. It organizes for its pupils various activities extra-curricular all the year: contest of postcard, day of the tree, cross-country race of the college, etc

The hotel college of Tahiti, located at the entry of Punaauia, accommodates 650 pupils and students in several dies: CAPE, BEP, Vat pro and BTS.

Punaauia also accommodates the Université of French Polynesia on the campus of Outumaoro. This establishment, autonomous since 1999, widens each year its formations: Right, economy-management, letters, Languages, Social sciences, Sciences, medical sciences, Technologies. After the license it is nevertheless often necessary expatrier, well some masters exist.

Twinning

;: Dumbéa is a city located at the south of the New Caledonia, belonging to the Grand Noumea. The two municipalities are twinned since 1991. The municipality of Dumbéa regularly invites the elected officials of Punaauia to its festivities of the Giant Omelet.
