Puebla
Puebla (Nahuatl Cuetlaxcōāpan ), or Puebla of los Ángeles and officially Heróica Puebla de Zaragoza , is the capital of the State de Puebla, with the Mexico. It is located at 110 km in the south-east of Mexico City to the coordinates. It is to 2.160 m of altitude, in a valley surrounded of the volcanos Popocatépetl, Iztaccíhuatl in the west and Malinche in north. The center of the city consists of houses of the colonial time whose certain frontages are decorated, on all the height, of multicoloured earthenware. These earthenware made the reputation of Puebla in the whole world.
Its population is of more than 1.485.000 inhabitants (2005) and more than 2 million in the agglomeration, which makes of it the fourth plus big city of Mexico.
History
It is founded on April 16th, 1531 and baptized Ciudad of los Ángeles (City of the Angels), and popularly known like Puebla of los Ángeles . It is the first city built by Spanish colonizers in the center of Mexico which was not built on an old city Amerindian, whose objective was to establish an industrial and agricultural system there on the basis of Spanish labor, opposed to the system of the encomiendas of the conquistadors which operated on the basis of hand of work-native.
The city develops enormously thanks to its strategic site halfway between Mexico City and Veracruz and becomes the second most important city of the News-Spain.
The May 5th 1862, is 52 years after the declaration of independence of Mexico in 1810, the army of the general Ignacio Zaragoza beat the French forces with the battles of Puebla. It is since this date that Puebla took the official name of the heroic town of Puebla de Zaragoza. Thus, el Cinco of Mayo is one bank holiday commemorating this event.
Economy
It has several universities and of many textile industries, chemical and automobile. There is in particular a large site Volkswagen, the last to build Beetle.
The city could also be the office of the Commission of the Free exchange zone of Americas if this project succeeds.
Tourism
The historical center of the city is characterized by a colonial Spanish architecture which is registered with the world heritage UNESCO. Certain historical masonries were marvelously restored. Among all these buildings, most impressive without any doubt the cathedral is, of neo-classic style, and the Church of Santo Domingo , example of the Mexican baroque, whose principal vault, the Capilla del Rosario is very covered with gold.With a few kilometers is the city précolombienne of Cholula, with its famous pyramid.
Specialities
Its specialities are the mole poblano , a sauce made containing chocolate, of peppers (mulato, ancho, pasilla) grooves, of fines, banana plantain, onions, prunes dry, peanuts, roasted grains of sesame. The camotes of Puebla (of the sticks sweetened containing sweet potato), the be [[chiles in nogada]] , of peppers to sauce with nuts, and famous ceramics Talavera of Puebla (of the name of the Spanish city of origin).
Anecdotes
The inhabitants of Puebla (Poblanos) are called the " Pipope" (Pinche Poblano Pendejo) in particular by the inhabitants of the capital.
