Provinces of the Democratic republic of Congo

The provinces are the first Subdivision S of the Democratic republic of Congo.

Current provinces

The article 2 of the Constitution of 2005 of the Democratic republic of Congo specifies a cutting of the country in 25 new provinces, while preserving the city-province of Kinshasa. Voted in February 2006, this new territorial organization must take effect 36 months after its promulgation, i.e. in February 2009, to allow the establishment of the institutions defined in this one (article 226).

Old provinces

Before the adoption of the new constitution, the Democratic republic of Congo was divided into 10 provinces and a city (the Kinshasa capital): Source: Congo Online
