Province of the Walloon Brabant

The the Walloon Brabant is a Walloon Province of Belgium.

It is youngest and also the smallest Walloon province. The province of the Walloon Brabant was born from the scission of old the Province of the Brabant. It is now the Walloon region which organizes the local authorities which are the provinces.

The implementation of the scission was operated by a cooperation agreement signed on May 30th, 1993 between the Federal state, the three Régions and the Communautés French and Flemish.

The official birth of the province of the Walloon Brabant was devoted on January 1st 1995.

The province counted 366.481 inhabitants at January 1st, 2006 is a density of 336 hab. /km ². Its surface is of 1.090 km ². The chief town of the province is Wavre.

The province is made up of only the administrative Arrondissement and legal of Nivelles including/understanding 27 communes, - chief town of district: Bubbles.

The governor is Marie-Jose Laloy, named on January 8th, 2007 by the Walloon Gouvernement for the first time. Its predecessor is Emmanuel Hendrickx.
