Province of Hainaut

The province of Hainaut , usually called the Hainaut , is one of the five Walloon provinces of Belgium.

Geography

The province has as a chief town Mons. Its surface is of 3  786  km ², for 1  290  079 inhabitants (Hennuyers or Hainuyers) what makes of it the most populated province Walloon region. In addition to Mons, its main cities are Charleroi, Louvière, Mouscron and Tournai. Hainaut counts 69 communes distributed in seven administrative districts.

Hainaut is made up various under-areas, of which the Borinage, the Center and the Pays of Charleroi, all three known for their past coal to deny, the Tournaisis, the Thudinie, the Botte of Hainaut, etc

The altitude of the province lies between 10 meters (Those) and 385 meters (Escaillère).
