Promethea

Promethea is a Cartoon created by Alan Moore and J.H. Williams III, published in English by America' S Best Comics/Wildstorm. Published in thirty-two numbers according to an irregular calendar, of 1998 with 2005, this series explores the ideas of Moore concerning the Art and the magic, by mixing Super-héros, reflections metaphysics and mystical hallucinations .

It puts in scene Promethea, a " fictional character fictionnel" who has magic capacities in the " world réel". Promethea also offers to the reader a broad range of experiments in term of visual styles and narrative techniques on behalf of Williams and Moore.

Synopsis

In year 411 after Jesus Christ, at Alexandria, a man who venerates the pagan gods is put at died by a group of Chrétiens. He manages to save the life of his daughter, Promethea, which flees in the desert. It meets the twin gods there Thoth and Hermes, which explains to him why they cannot protect it vis-a-vis the Christian god. They propose to him to take it along with them in Immateria , the kingdom of imagination. By doing this, Promethea loses its physical shape, it becomes a history, a tale, and thus reached immortality. When a person, in the real-world, discovers this history and invests itself there sufficiently, Promethea can be incarnated in it and act in the world.

In 1999, in a futuristic New York and clinquante, the young person Sophie Bangs prepares a school work on the myth of Promethea. She is far from suspecting the destiny which awaits it…

The series was partially translated into France by Semic in three albums beginning again respectively numbers 1 to 4,5 to 8 (more one out of the ordinary), and 9 to 12.

Volume 4 is laid down in March 2007 at Panini Comics.
