Prince of Asturies

official Title of the heir to the throne of Spain.

The Asturies are the cradle of the Spanish Monarchie. It is in the mountains of Asturies that took refuge the Goths in 712 and 713, and that Pélage the Conqueror, proclaimed king with Cangas de Onís (718), gained the victory with the Bataille of Covadonga into 719, meadows of the Devas river.

The seat of the monarchy of Asturies was established with; one speaks then about the kingdom of Oviedo.

The heir to the crown of Castille then of Spain carries since 1388 the title of prince of Asturies. The current prince, Felipe de Borbón, received the title by royal decree of January 21st, 1977, one year after his/her father Juan Carlos I {{er}} became king on November 22nd, 1975.
