President of the republic
The president of the Republic is the Head of State of a country which chose a republican form of government.
In certain cases, name is not exactly this one: President of the United States , you Beretitenti (in Gilbertin), President off Ireland (Uachtarán Na hÉireann, in Irish), federal president (Germany, Austria), but it is in the majority of the cases, a Head of the State, generally elected:
- either by the direct suffrage and universal (by the whole of the voters), for one period generally going five years,
- or by the indirect suffrage,
- by the Parliament or one of its rooms (France, of 1871 to 1954),
- by an electoral college which can even be to him indicated by the direct suffrage (the United States), or indirect (France, in 1958: college of approximately 80 000 “ large électeurs ”, composed of the deputies, senators, general advisers and members of the assemblies of the overseas territories, mayors as well as representatives or delegated elected by the municipal councils).
