Gifu (岐阜県, Gifuken ) is a prefecture Japan, located at the center of the island of Honshu. The name Gifu car its origin of a Chinese mount and was chosen by Oda Nobunaga which built its castle there.
History
At the time feudal, the current territory of the prefecture corresponded to the Province of Mino (美濃) for its southern part and that of Hida for its northern part.Hida, mountainous province, were “principal provinces in the east”, also protected by Fuwa No seki (不破関) built with the Mont Ibuki.
On the territory of Mino was highest of the castles with Iwamura, with more than 700 meters of altitude. It overhung the fog which reigns on the surroundings, but is shaven at the beginning of the era Meiji to erase the traces of the old mode. The province of Mino is also known for its production of Agar-agar (a gelatin manufactured starting from Algue S).
During the Period Sengoku, Saito Dosan and Oda Nobunaga reigned. During the Period Edo, the Shogun reigned directly.
In 1600 there the combat of Sekigahara took place.
Geography
The prefecture of Gifu is one of the rare prefectures of Japan not to have an access to the sea. Mountainous and undulating on the majority of its territory, it east is bordered by the following prefectures: Peaceful side (Southern), Mie-ken and Aichi-ken Side Sea of Japan (Northern), Toyama-ken In the Western South, Shiga-ken In the West, Fukui-ken In Western North, Ishikawa-ken In the East Nagano-ken It is administratively divided into 5 areas: Gifu, Seino, Chuno, Tono and Hida. These areas are subdivided in communes. details on the site of the prefecture
Compared to these communes, much disappeared administravement, because of the administrative regrouping engaged by the system of subsidy based compared to the population of the commune. There was for example the disappearance of the commune of Iwamura, which integrated that of Ena (area of Tono). The transportation routes are narrow and expensive to realize in this area, one will not be astonished by the absence of autouroute (currently) to connect Nagoya to Toyama. However a highway connects Nagoya to Takayama, in the north of the prefecture in a seizing alternation of bridges and tunnels in a very mountainous medium.
Economy
The saving in Gifu suffers from its situation, as well and unfortunately as its growth rate was for a long time negative (jusquà 2003). details on the site of the prefecture
The economic structure of the prefecture rests mainly on the services including tourism, although the active population is important in the field of industry compared to the remainder of Japan. Other figures interesting for 2004, the share of the services in the GDP of the prefecture was well the weakest share of Japan in lower part of the national average (Gifu: 62.8%, Japan average 2004:72%).
Indeed it should be known that historically, the area is poor, not very producing out of rice and other agricultural resources. Its richness was and is still located in the linked activities at ceramics (artisanal or industrial, dishes, bowls or ceramics of point for industry…). Companies like Taiyosha Takasago, Inax or TYK illustrate this sector well. These industries attract also a labor little described as foreigners of Japanese origin; the nikkei.
