Poznan
Poznań ( Poznan in French, Latin Posnania, Posen in German) is a city of the west of the Poland on the Warta, capital of the Voïvodie of Large-Poland and 5th more big city of Poland. Formerly administrative city of first importance under the kings of Poland, the city was under the administration of the Prussia at the time of the second division of Poland in 1792, then of the Germany until in 1918 (out of 1806 - 1815, period of Duché of Warsaw) : it was called then Posen .
June 28th, 1956 took place of the bloody riots against the Soviet presence.
Poznań of today
Today, it is a city with a considerable cultural heritage but also under full economic development, in particular in the sectors of the Textile industry and the New technologies (Microsoft). Polish economic main city, it owes this heritage with its past of crossroads city of the main axes like town of fairs (Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie).The city also has one of the most famous universities of Poland with the Université Mickiewicz (UAM).
Administrative division
In 1793 and 1800, the six autonomous cities of Poznań, Ostrów, Ostrówek, Srodka, Chwaliszewo, Lacina, were gathered in only one entity. The city quickly increasing annexed the villages close to Grunwald, Łazarz, Górczyn, Jeżyce, Wilda, Winogrady in 1900, Piatkowo and Rataje a few years later. Today, Poznan is divided into five districts:- Poznań Stare Miasto
