In Physical of the particles, the positron or positon is the antiparticle associated with the electron. It has a electric Charge of +1 (against -1 for the electron), same the Spin and same the Masse as the electron.
Predicted by Paul Dirac in 1928, this form of Antimatière became the first in experiments highlighted. It is the first discovered antiparticle, which explains why it does not have the composite name d'" anti-électron".
In the vacuum, the positron is a stable particle. But while crossing the matter, when a basic positron energy enters in collision with a basic electron energy, both are destroyed, i.e. their mass is converted into energy in the form of two Photon S gamma.
A positron can be the Product decay of a radioactive core . It is then about a disintegration β+.
A positron can be created at the time of the interaction of a Photon of energy higher than 1.022 MeV with an atomic nucleus (2 m e C ² = 2×0.511 MeV, where m e is the mass of an electron, and C the speed of light). This process is called production of pairs (see Gamma ray), because two particles (positron and electron) are created by the energy of the photon. The first positrons were observed by this process when cosmic gamma rays are inserted in the athmosphère.
