Portraits of areas

The block-layers Portraits of areas are block-layers of ten postage stamps emitted by La Poste Frenchwoman since 2003, at a rate of two layers per annum.

The stamps of the block illustrate by photographs of the tourist and gastronomical aspects of the France. They are classified in two topics: “France with living” for the Folklore and the Gastronomy, “France to be seen” for the tourist sites.

These blocks are appeared as a long layer (28,6 cm X 11 cm) where are put on page the ten stamps. Their facial value corresponds to the stamping from the letter of less than 20 G bound for France (and of Western Europe before March 1st, 2005). A complete layer sold 5 euros in 2003 and 2004 can free only a letter with the economic tariff from 500 to 750 grams towards the countries of Western Europe (zone A).

These stamps are available in layer of ten different stamps, printed in Héliogravure and put on page by Bruno Ghiringhelli. A “Livre stamped” annual is sold with the two blocks of the year. Each emission is in addition accompanied by the publication of a “notebook of illustrated voyage” of Aquarelle S in connection with the subjects of the stamps.

Portraits of areas is the second operation of large layers after the series the Century with the wire of the stamp of 2000 to 2002. Because of the number of subjects evoked by only one block, it makes it possible with the Post office to organize demonstrations First day in several towns of France and to thus approach an audience larger than the only philatelists.
