Ponteils-and-Brésis

Ponteils-and-Brésis are a common French, located in the department of the Gard and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants name Ponteillais.

Vestiges of the castle of Brésis composed of a medieval keep surrounded by an enclosure.
  • 12th century: Construction of the castle to supervise the passage of the bridge on the Cèze. It belongs to the family of Hérail.
  • 16th century: The seigniory becomes a Vicomté under François I {{er}}.
  • 17th century: The countess of Caritat de Condorcet, born Anne Hérail de Brésis , inherits the castle.
  • 18th century: Deserted then sold after the Revolution, it falls in ruin.
