Pont National

The bridge National is a Pont road and railway crossing the the Seine.

Situation

The bridge National is located at Paris in the east of the 12 {{E}} and 13 {{E}} districts.

Its railway part supports the Ligne of Small Belt, now unused. Its road part connects the Boulevard Poniatowski to the Boulevard Masséna.

History

The national bridge was built in 1852 and 1853. It was called bridge Napoleon III until in 1870. In 1936, it is doubled side upstream.

Structure

Of an overall length of 188,50 m, comprising five arches in masonry, it was inaugurated in 1853 as a railway bridge (to allow the passage of the line of Small Belt) and to connect the fortifications on both sides of the river.
