Pomponius Mixed
Pomponius Mela , which wrote in the neighborhoods 43, is oldest Roman Géographe .
Its small work ( Of situ orbis libri III. or Of chorographia is a simple compendium, length of less than one hundred pages, written in a dry and not very methodical style. It is however typically Latin and decorated that and there of pleasant Métaphore S. Apart from the geographical chapters of the Historia naturalis of Pline Old the (where Mela is quoted like an important reference), the Of situ orbis is the only treaty on the traditional subject in Latin.
One knows nothing the author, if not his name and his birthplace, the small town of Tingentera or Cigentera in southernmost Spain, in bay of Algésiras (Mixed II. 6, § 96; but the text is incomplete).
