The Politecnico di Milano , whose French literal translation is Polytechnic school of Milan , is a Université Italy, located at Milan, devoted to sciences and technology. She is regarded as the most important technological university of Italy.

History

The school Politecnico di Milano was founded the November 29th 1863. The purpose of it is to train engineers, architects and draftsmen. It delivers academic diplomas. Its current seat is place Léonard-of-Vinci (in the zone Città studi), but it exists other sites with Milan, Like, Lecco, Mantoue and Plaisance. Its historical seat was street del Vecchio Politecnico.

This school formed the single Italian Nobel Prize of chemistry, the professor Giulio Natta. She is regarded as the Italian university with most important Bach de Ingenièrie, primarily in the sectors data processing, electronics, biomedical and gestionel.

Admission and organization of the studies

For the students registered at the first year until the academic year 1999/2000 the Politecnico di Milano (also called by students and professors It Polished , or abroad PoliMi ) delivered, and still delivers, the title of Engineer after a 5 years formation of full-time course and 3 months a variable period - 14 month for the thesis of control. This organization of the studies is now called Vecchio Ordinamento (BAC+5).

The contest of admission was not a constraint for the admission at the school. The contest was used to the students for an car-evaluation with respect to the statistics of the courses as study (years to obtain the title) former students. The constraint was the success with a sufficient note (at least 18/30) with each course of the program of study. In this way, everyone could enter, but only one small portion of them finally obtained the title. The statistics indicate that only the 50% of the students registered at the first year finally obtainait the title, that only the 5% finish in 5 years of study, and that the average of the students who finished the studies finished in 7,3 years.

In following adaptation to the process of European Boulogne, the studies for the registered voters as from the academic year 2000/2001 were organized in system 3+2 (called Nuovo Ordinamento), with an entrance examination this time filter, with a title of first cycle (Laurea Breve) after three years of study (with a level of difficulty lower than the first three years of Vecchio Ordinamento) and a project of end of study of maximum 6 months, and a final title after 2 more years (Laurea Specialistica) of study and a thesis of control of 3 - 14 month. The result is a greater number of students which obtains a title of first cycle (BAC+3), is that only one small portion between them continues studies of second cycle. The second cycle has one dismantles difficulty much larger first cycle and the students who leave can be considered fairly almost with the same education level of the students of Vecchio Ordinamento.

The best students can follow studies of third cycle. The doctorands of the Politecnico di Milano are generally Italian. The doctoral studies are characterized by a formation of excellence in research, often in strong collaboration with the companies of the Milanese area (for example, in telecommunications ST Microelectronics, Alcatel, Siemens, Italtel, Fastweb, Vodafone, Telecom Italia, Wind, Pirelli), and with the two other Italian universities of engineers (Politecnico di Torino and Politecnico di Bari). Strong bonds also exist with the best American universities thanks to the professors who often worked in the United States.

Other consurtiums of research and formation related to the Politecnico di Milano (CEFRIEL, CORECOM, CORITEL, MIP, etc), and the directions of the departments of the school, supplement the offer of the best Italian school of engineers: continuing education, studies in finance, architecture, design, economy, management of the territory and telecommunications

The students of the Politecnico di Milano have also the possibility of carrying out experiments abroad in exchange or training course with a very vast but selected list of the schools and companies everywhere in the world.

Usually the students who leave the Politecnico di Milano with a title of second cycle and third cycle are recognized not only in Italy like very gifted professionals and very well trained.
