Polyacid
see also: Etymology of Polyacid
A polyacid is a chemical compound which with the possibility of releasing several H+ ions in opposition to the monoacides which can release only one from them. This release of Proton S is done in a successive way. With each release of protons a single acid couple corresponds/bases and its pKa associated.
Example of reaction:
H3PO4 + OH- - > H2PO4- + H2O
H2PO4- + OH- - > HPO42- + H2O
HPO42- + OH- - > PO43- + H2O
Examples of polyacids
- Diacids:
- Acid sulphuric: H2SO4
- Ion oxonium: H3O+
- Triacid:
- Acid phosphoric: Citric H3PO4
- Acid: C6H8O7
