Gaillac-Toulza is a peaceful small village of 910 inhabitants, located at approximately 30 km in the South of Toulouse. It is built in edge of Calers which is an affluent of Ariège. The oldest houses are organized around Main street or in parallel. This street belongs to a road which connects the valley of Ariège to that of Lèze. The commune is distributed on a varied territory of plains and cultivated or timbered slopes.This village was built at the 12th century by the monks cistercians of the very close abbey of Calers. It was destroyed during the war of the Albigensians, was rebuilt in country house and destroyed again at the 16th century at the time of other wars of religion. In 1845 it counted 1914 inhabitants. Main street has interesting residences: the old convent, the Dorio house and the Mialhe house. With the cemetery one can discover the family vault Fauré. This name, commun run in our area, was that of a teacher of Gaillac-Toulza; he married a girl of the village where they conceived celebrates it Gabriel Fauré type-setter and organist who was born in Pamiers in 1845 and composed, inter alia, Prométhée and Pénélope. The church dedicated to Saint Etienne then also in Notre Dame, dates from the 13th century, it undergoes several restorations. Its Gothic gate is of origin and its bell-tower with arcades dates from the 18th century.
On the commune of Gaillac-Toulza, apart from the old abbey of Calers, one can see the castle of Verdaïch which shelters, partly, a large private clinic of functional rehabilitation.
A few kilometers further, was installed, on a shone upon slope, the " Naturist camp-site of Lèze" with the locality " Louise". More close, a circuit of motocross on very sloping ground accommodates, every year (on May 1st), an international competition. Moreover, the village has of a football stadium, a tennis court and shelters a cantonal éco-museum
