Plate of Saclay

The plate of Saclay is located at the north of the the Essonne, with a score of kilometers in the south of Paris. It is delimited by the valley of the Yvette (Vallée de Chevreuse) in the south and the east, and by the valley of the Bièvre in north.

Geography

The plate is located at approximately 165 meters of altitude. He is traversed by drains which drain water. These works, as well as the pond of Saclay , located close to the commune of Saclay, were intended for the water supply of the castle of Versailles (and in particular of its fountains).

He corresponds to the following communes: Gif-sur-Yvette (district of Moulon), Orsay, Palaiseau, Saclay, Saint-Aubin, Vauhallan, Villiers-le-Bâcle.

The southern part is called plate of Moulon.

Economy/Town planning

The plate of Saclay has an agricultural long tradition. However, it became an important pole of Enseignement, Scientific research and research and development after the Second world war, and especially starting from the Années 1960.

The municipalities of the plate belong to the communities of agglomeration:

It is crossed north in the south by the Trunk road 118, the axis Boulogne-Billancourt - Ulis. It is served by the lines of the RER B and C, as well as the buses of the General advice of the Essonne and the CAPES.

In 2005, the Pole of competitiveness System@tic Paris-area , which associates the academic and industrial main actors plate, was labellisé “pole of world scale” by the French government.

Since November 2005, the plate is the subject of an big operation of town planning, known as Opération of national interest (OIN) Massy, Saclay, Versailles, Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines. Certain installations (thickening of the plate) are the sharp disputes object on behalf of associative movements.

The plate of Moulon

One calls plate of Moulon the southern part of the plate of Saclay, located on the communes of Gif-sur-Yvette and Orsay. It is a particularly active sector in the caused fields:

  • higher education: Supélec, SupOptique, IUT of Orsay, Faculty of Science of Orsay, Training institute of engineers of Paris-south (IFIPS) at the House of the engineer;
  • research: INRA with the firm of Moulon , the future common pole of research in data processing (of which INRIA - Future), institute of biotechnology of the plants, laboratories of CNRS and the University of Paris XI;
  • industry: park-club Orsay university.

History

The recent work undertaken on the plate by the archeologists of the Inrap and CNRS shows the presence of a quasi continual occupation since the first Âge of iron. A Roman villa is located on the site of Moulon.

In 2006, a village Gallic was discovered on the plate of Moulon. It was probably composed of a hundred members: craftsmen, farmers or stockbreeders.
