Pignerol
Pignerol ( Italian Pinerolo in , Pinheiròl in alpine Occitan, Piedmontese Pinareul in ) is a Italian city of the Province of Turin, in the Piedmont.
The city was French at various times before being Savoyard then Italian. It was set up by Louis XIII in 1642 in general Government (of which the first listed governor was Henri de Maleyssye). It conceals a Cathédrale and a church of the 14th century but it owes its celebrity especially with her Forteresse, in which were locked up Fouquet, Lauzun and the Homme with the iron mask under Louis XIV, under the guard of Bénigne Dauvergne of Saint-March.
