Pierre Prévert

Pierre Prévert was born the May 26th, 1906 with Neuilly-sur-Seine, that is to say six years after his/her brother more known Jacques of the general public.

It is however Pierre who it first of the family will work in the cinema (projectionist at ERKA). One is then in years 1925/1930 and the movie studios of Joinville-le-Pont and Saint-Maurice attract all those which want to launch out in the career.

Pierre Prévert goes from odd job in odd job (figuration, assistant), until in 1928 where it will turn with his Jacques brother and Marcel Duhamel (later founder of the Black series ) Souvenirs of Paris , film which, modified and enriched by images colors, will leave in 1959 (with a price with the Cannes festival under the title of Paris beautiful the ).

Pierre Prévert learns his trade in contact with very large directors possibly appearing in front of the camera with Allégret, Bunuel, Renoir, Vigo…

In 1932, Pierre carries out the business is in the bag with the Studios Pathé-Natan in Joinville-le-Pont with some scenes of outsides including one on the bridge named since according to the title of film.

Thereafter, Pierre Prévert will continue to work as assistant on several films of Richard Pottier before carrying out in 1943 Adieu Léonard then Voyage-surprise (in 1946) on scenarios of his brother.

The commercial success was not with go and certain analysts note that the films of the Prévert brothers are those which contain in a pure state and without self-censorship the devastator spirit of Jacques… But Pierre misses financial means to follow his brother completely: “In France, we do not have much the direction of the gag” notes it. “For a comic film, it would be necessary more time that for a dramatic film. It is terrible, because he is too often scorned of the public which has shame to laugh. ”

In the Fifties Pierre Prévert of a cabaret left bank in Paris the four Season old Fountain will be the artistic Director which will receive Boris Vian, Maurice Béjart, Guy Bedos…

As from the years 1960, Pierre Prévert makes for television several films (long or short): the Parrot of the son Hoquet (1963), Small Claus and Large Claus , according to Andersen (1964), the House of the frontier runner (1965), With the Open air (1966) and Companions of Baal (1966 -67)…

For France Culture it recorded the Queen of the Sabbath according to Gaston Leroux.

In 1961, Pierre Prévert carries out a film entitled My brother Jacques (available today out of box DVD) who is a true autobiography (if one wants) of the poet.

Pierre Prévert dies the April 5th, 1988 with Joinville-le-Pont where it is buried.

In " Prévert, portrait of a vie" (Ramsay, 2007,239 p., pp. 208-209), Carole Aurouet written: " In 1961, Pierre decides to carry out documentary on his elder for Belgian television; he is produced by the royal Cineclub of Belgium, like by the R.T.B.F. Turning extends over four days in the apartment from the Véron city. How is held this realization? Jacques evokes with his friends, who visit him in his residence, his multiple last activities. Film bench-titles and extracts come to illustrate their remarks. Diffused in October and November 1961 on Belgian television, " My Jacques" brother; passes on the French waves in November 1991 on FR3, in the emission “Oceanic”. In 2004, Catherine Prévert into present a new assembly in DVD (Doriane Films). Unfortunately, it must remove passages having undergone deteriorations on the level of the sound and image, and arranges of this fact of the sequences in a different way. However, it can add many elements, like a plan of " Price and profits" , put in scene by Yves Allégret and in which Jacques and Pierre make figuration, or short-measuring " Fishing with the baleine" realized by Lou Bonin/Tchimoukow. It returns also color to documents which could be filmed at the time only in black and white: joinings of Jacques, images of Elsa Henriquez, models of decorations of Alexandre Trauner, cartoons of Paul Grimault, tables of Tanguy, Miró, Leger… "
