Pierre Monbeig

Pierre Monbeig (September 15th 1908 with Marissel (Oise) - September 22nd 1987 with Cavalaire (VAr)) is a Géographe, specialist in the South America.

Biography

After secondary studies with the College Montaigne then with the Louis-The-Large College, it obtains a license of Histoire/Géographie in 1927, then one OF geography in 1928 in Sorbonne. Incorporated the following year, at 21 years, it leaves in Spain to begin a Thèse on the Balearic Islands. It Marie in 1930 with a Historian, Juliette Janet. The couple will have four children (Marianne, 1932, Jean-Paul, 1934, Catherine, 1937 and Laurent, 1943).

In 1931, Pierre Monbeig obtains a station of Professor to the Malsherbe college of Caen. It continues its study trips in the Mediterranean during its holidays but must stop its thesis when bursts the Guerre of Spain.

It accepts in 1935 a Chaire of professor of geography physical and human at the university of São Paulo and settles with the Brésil. President of the association of the Brazilian geographers dice 1936, it takes part in the foundation the following year of the Conselho Nacional de Geografia .

The reorganization of CNRS after the war gives the opportunity to him to return to France as attache of research in 1947. It takes again its thesis and obtains a station of Part-time lecturer at the university of Strasbourg, without leaving for as much Paris. It supports its thesis in 1950 and obtains the price of the National Fondation of Political sciences.

It enters to CNAM in 1952 as economic professor of geography and founds in 1957 IHEAL, before being named in 1961 professor in Sorbonne and assistant editor of the department Social sciences with CNRS. It is named Research director in 1972 and takes its retirement in 1977.
