Pierre Mignard
Pierre Mignard , born with Troyes the November 7th 1612 and died in Paris the May 30th 1695 was a painter French.
First of all intended for medicine, it enters in 1624 the workshop of the painter Jehan Boucher to Bourges. Of return to Troyes, he works in a sculptor named François Gentil before leaving for Fontainebleau - capital of arts of the time - where he studies Primatice, Rosso and Fréminet. He paints the vault of the castle of Coubert-in-Brie for the marshal of Vitry which takes it under its protection and takes it along to Paris where he becomes the pupil of Simon Vouet and meets Charles Le Brun (well later the two men will be in situation of open competition), Eustace Sweat, and Of Fresnoy with which he binds.
In 1635 it leaves for Rome where it meets Poussin and Anna Avolara, girl of an architect, of which it éprend but that it will marry only in 1660 following various obstacles. Become famous in Rome, he is naturally recalled in France by Louis XIV in 1657. On the way of Paris, it meets Molière with Avignon and becomes one of the rare close friends of the troop which is not actor. Molière will compose in 1669 a praise ( poem of the Glory of the Valley-of-Grace ) of his chief of work, the Dôme of the Valley-of-Grace , ordered in 1663 per Anne of Austria and which to him is paid 35.000 books.
Mignard shares its career between the portrait - it is the whooping-cough of the great ladies of the kingdom for that - and the great decorative compositions. It will paint in particular with the Château of Versailles. In June 1687, it is anobli by the king who, in 1690 - with died of the Brown one - names its first painter, makes of it the director of royal manufactures and the fact office of entering to the royal Academy of painting and sculpture and of sitting there as director.
With his death one made in Mignard great funeral with the church Saint-Roch and it was buried with the Jacobins. It had had four children. His/her Catherine daughter will marry in 1696 the count de Feuquières.
Within sight of its Madonna with the airs inspired and insipidness sometimes allotted to its painting, a report/ratio was established between its name and the adjective “mignard” or the word “preciousness”, derivatives pejorative of “nice”. There however remains one of the most famous French traditional painters: friend of the beautiful spirits of his time (in addition to Molière, let us quote the Fountain, Racine or Boileau), one owes him of the portraits of Molière and Bossuet, of the Palatine princess, the duchess of Châtillon, the countess of Fiesque, Julie d' Angennes, Miss de Montpensier, Miss de Valois and the large-duchess of Tuscany, of Mrs. of the Sand pit, the duchess of Brissac, the duchess of Ventadour, M {{me}} of Montespan, of M {{lle}} of Vallière, of M {{me}} of Sévigné, of Miss de Grignan, Miss de Fontanges. It in addition painted ten times Louis XIV.
