Pierre IV of Épinac
Guicharde d' Albon, girl of Guillaume III and sister of Monseigneur Antoine d' Albon, wife in the marquis Pierre d' Espinac, an important character since he was general Lieutenant of the King for the Burgundy. They had 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls; the third of the boys, Pierre like his father, was born on May 10th 1540 with the castle from Espinac.
did Canon-count, at 10 years in 1552, it make studies with Paris then with? where it was accepted " doctor in one and the other droit". Chamarier in 1559 and senior of the chapter in 1569; several times indicated by its fellow-members to represent them. He was also abbot of the Island-Bores and of Ainay and prior of Saint-Rambert.
In 1573, Antoine d' Albon resigned in his favor episcopal dignity, and on the authorities of the pope Gregoire XIII, the king accepted this choice. Pierre d' Espinac took possession of his seat on October 2nd, 1574. He is the first noble holder of this évêché to have made be reproduced a crown on his ecclesiastical weapons.
Man of talent, dedicated in the exercise of his load, one saw it preaching in his Cathédrale, managing the Sacrement S and taking part in the processions. In 1577 it published new synodal statutes by including there the regulations of the Concile of Thirty. He endeavoured to give a little behavior in his Abbaye S where the rule and the divine office were forsaken. It is in 1585 that was founded, by the Ordre of the Carthusian monks, with the Cross-Russet-red , the Chartreuse of the Lily-Saint-Spirit. Mgr of Espinac devoted the large furnace bridge of, raised after the devastations of the Huguenot S.
It did not remain unfortunately a long time in its Diocèse: appointed the States of Blois in 1577, it chaired, as a Primat of Gaules, the assembly of the clergy held with Melun in 1579.
It was sent in embassy in England by the king Henri III, before his final return in 1590. Having been member of a league, moreover moderated, it attracted itself the enmity of the king Henri IV, which explains the end of its time of embassy which coincides with the advent of this king. It should be recognized that it had done everything for! Indeed, when Henri IV sought to regain his kingdom and to be attached the cities, it used three processes: voluntary rallying, attacks and rachat.
To seem to yield to the force but without damage, the middle-class men of Lyon negotiated an attack simulated with the Count d' Ornano which operated for the king in south-east. Mgr of Espinac tried to be opposed to this Manœuvre and to intimidate the middle-class men of Lyon, he was not listened and then withdrew himself in his episcopal palate. The middle-class men shouted " Live France" , (and not the king) and the clothiers dévalisé to carry scarves of white Soie!
During the nine years which remained to him, it enjoyed to reside in the castle of Ombreval at Vimy. This castle had been built in 1458 per Mister d' Ombreval; it was then in the possession of the Buatier family, until it was acquired by Mgr of Espinac in community with his sister Madam de Gresolles in 1586. This acquisition was carried out for the sum of 7.500 ecus poured with Symphorien Buatier lord of Montjoli. With died of Mgr of Espinac, his/her sister was forced to sell the castle to pay the Dette S of her brother. He was acquired by Jean Livet, secretary of the Archevêque of Lyon, which had grown rich at the expense of its Master. This castle will be embellished later Camille de Neufville de Villeroy, abbot of Ainay, and afterwards many transfers of property in 1964 was sold with the municipality which established the town hall there.
Mgr of Espinac died in Lyon, on January 9th 1599, and was buried in the Midsummer's Day cathedral of Lyon, in Holy-Madeleine vault.
