Pierre Biquard

Pierre Biquard , born on August 30th 1901 with Paris and deceased on April 28th 1992, is a French physicist.

Biography

Pierre Biquard between with the University of physics and chemistry (39°) in same promotion as Frederic Joliot. It will bind a strong friendship with this last. Biquard enters then the laboratory of general electricity of the University of physics and chemistry directed by Paul Langevin, whereas Joliot chooses to study in the laboratory of Marie Curie.

In 1932, he discovers with Rene Lucas at the same time as Peter Debye, the Diffraction of the Lumière by the ultrasonic waves. The January 15th 1934, Pierre Biquard attends discovered artificial Radioactivité by Frederic Joliot.

From 1936 to 1938, Biquard is principal private secretary of Irene Joliot-Curie then of Jean Perrin, Secretaries of State to the Scientific research in the government of Leon Blum.

During the war, it engages in resistance to with dimensions of Yves Farge, in the Rhone-Alps area. It is one of the founders of the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique in 1945 and is of 1946 to 1950 the principal private secretary of Frederic Joliot, High-Commissioner with ECA. It is named professor of general electricity of the University of physics and of chemistry industrial of the town of Paris in 1964. Jacques Lewiner succeeds to him in 1970.

Its scientific activity it empécha never to exert an important political commitment and militant. Pierre Biquard is member of the Mouvement of peace, general secretary of the world Fédération of the scientific workers, a long time fellow traveller of the French Communist party, to which it adheres finally in 1976.
