Philippa Schuyler

Philippa Schuyler (August 2nd 1931 - May 9th 1967) was born from an American black father George S. Schuyler and from a mother texane Josephine Cogdell. Philippa Duke Schuyler was an exceptionally gifted child and a pianist who made known themselves before his ten years thanks to his various talents. His/her father journalist and essay writer enough in vogue had very preserving opinions.

A particular childhood

His/her mother, raised it in a very eccentric way and its childhood was not simple. The methods of education of his/her mother were really particular: she believed hard as iron that the genius developed better within the framework of a mode containing believed food, Philippa was thus high containing pea, of carrots and yams believed, decorated of cod-liver oil and of lemon in place of place of sugar refineries…

A short career

She played primarily in Europe leaving the United States as soon as possible, to about thirty she stopped the piano to become journalist like her father and was corresponding to the vietnam during the war.

She died in Asia, drowned following a crash landing of helicopter which evacuated Vietnamese orphans (mission in which she had engaged).

In memory with this fantastic woman, a school: the " Philippa Schuyler Middle School ", for gifted and talented children the memory of the child prodigy preserves by giving a teaching directed towards art to the children from New York (in Brooklyn).
