Phil Lynott

Philip Parris Lynott (August 20th 1949 - January 4th 1986) was the singer of the group of Rock Thin Lizzy.

Personality with share in the musical landscape of years 1970/1980, it will have marked the world of the music rock'n'roll and Hard rock, by the fine intelligence of its texts and its musical arrangements.

Biography

Phil Lynott is born in England with West Bromwich from a father Brésil IEN whom he will not know and of an Irish mother . It grows in the suburbs of Dublin, raised by his grandmother. The image of this large black Irish to the cut afro is often reduced in the press with that of the " rocker" pure and hard: sex, drug and rock' roll. Today, with the passing of the years, its excesses are more and more put on the account of a personality if it is not fragile all at least affected. The second reading of its texts and their setting in prospect indeed shows us an artist with the glance major and, towards the end of its life, conscious of its own distress.

Influence in the music

Phil Lynott has, of the opinion of its contemporaries, fact proof of an eclecticism visionary for his time. Well before the arrival of the new wave of groups which will mix rock'n'roll, Punk and Funk in the Nineties (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Living Color, etc), he did not hesitate to break the barriers between the musical genres and to work with personalities as different as Midge RUE, Johnny Thunders, Mark Knopfler or Junior. The title Military Man , recorded at the end of its life with Gary Moore, us offers an good example of it: saturated guitar, intelligent text, station-wagon funky.

Its artistic step, if it caused the respect of its pars (see its collaboration with some personalities of the punk movement), did not always meet hoped business success. The complexity and the originality of its musical engagement, but also the excessive consumption of drug, explain without any doubt the difficulties encountered during its career solo and with its group Grand Slam after the separation of Thin Lizzy. He will die besides of the continuations of his abuses repeated drug in 1986.

Works

He will leave behind him excellent compositions with his group Thin Lizzy, but also two albums solos of good invoice which, although disappointing from many fans at their exit, pass with happiness the test of time; for proof the resumption of Old Town by the group The Corrs.

Other

A statue was high in its honor in 2005 with Dublin, in Ireland.
