Phenocryst

A phenocryst (of the Greek phainein to shine and crystal) is a crystal whose size is higher than that of the other crystals of a Roche. One can speak about phenocrysts of a millimetre up to ten centimetres.

Phenocrysts are very often associated with Microlithe S.
