Peugeot 405

The 405 was a car produced by Peugeot as from spring 1987. Although it is not available any more in Europe since 1997, it is always produced and marketed at present in CKD in Iran by the firm Iran Khodro of versions truck and station-wagon, as in a named restylée version Pars.

In 1988, it is elected European Voiture of the year.

Characteristics

4,41 m length truck, for 1,72 m broad and 1,43 m in height.

Equipped with a Body Tricorps or station-wagon. A half-compartment inspired of the model Great raid (Paris-Dakar…) was considered a long time and finally abandoned.

The 405 was declined in a big number of versions, GL with the vendôme: GL, GLD, GR., GRX, GRD, GRDT, SR, SRx4, SRD, SRDT, ST, STDT, SVDT, STi, If, WAKE, STYLE, SIGNATURE, Mi16, Mi16x4, T16, Husky, Vendôme, Diamond, Bolero (Spain), Station-wagon Roland Garros, Signal line, Privilege, T16 Mans

History

It made its commercial beginnings in April 1987 and left the place to the 406 in 1995 (the versions station-wagon were maintained with the catalog still a year). It should be noted that it was one of rare the Peugeot with the 505 to be sold with the Canada and the E. - U., without much success however. Peugeot 405 is not a car like the others, it is a kind of car of the future, a prototype. Many are the users has to make only praises of them. Moreover, which forever considering one 405? This car is a run myth which does not cease perpetuating the tradition of Peugeot to design cars with the technological advances still not applied to the great series today. The 405 marked its time and will enter the books of history. It should be noted that the 405 was produced to practically 2,5 million specimens, in version truck and station-wagon (family and commercial). There be for this model no version crossed or convertible, even if a project were imagined by Heuilliez at the beginning of career, it will succeed.

Evolutions

Peugeot 405 is launched in 1987 , it is the phase 1 with 4 doors and 4 levels of completion.
From the March 1st 1988 , the diesel engines appear: 1905 cm ³ 71 ch and 1769 cm ³ turbo 90 ch.
Appearance of the station-wagon in May ' 1988 and of the versions integral on 1.9 L 110 ch. Augmentation de power of 1360 cm ³: 65 ch with 70 ch.

Evolution on the level of the instrument panel in 1992 : new wheel, improvement of the soundproofing and better control of the vibrations.

Restylage of the model in 1992 : new trunk (threshold lowered for the trucks), news calenders, new instrument panel, new engines. Appearance of T 16 with engine 1998 cm ³ 16 S Turbo overboost 220 ch.

Appearance in 1994 of the versions Wake, Style and Signature. Replacing thus and respectively the GL GR. and SR.
