People of Dublin (Joyce)

People of Dublin or Dublinois ( Dubliners ) is a collection of news published in 1914 which precedes monumental work in which, soon exiled voluntary, James Joyce will never cease evoking its birthplace Dublin. Impregnated sometimes derision, sometimes of latent sadism, brutality or humor, their modernism especially holds with the glance detached, ironic, sometimes cruel, but always implacably lucid, that the writer poses on his characters. Because the latter are ultimately only the product of a company of which it evokes frustrations, resulting from a narrow social and religious conformism.

Although several works of James Joyce illustrate the rich person tradition of the Catholic church, the news " Araby" tell its disaffection towards the church and the loss of its faith.

The last history, most known, deaths , was put in scene by John Huston in his last film completed in 1987.
