Penetrability with the needle
The penetrability with the needle is a type of Expérience making it possible to classify the bitumens according to their “Dureté”.
It is the subject of a Norme Européenne.
This experiment consists in dropping a Aiguille in a pot from bitumen preserved at a Température of 20°C. The depth of depression of the needle makes it possible to measure the hardness of the bitumen in millimetres.
The bitumens are thus categorized in several classes. The classes usually met for the realization of Coated S, of softest with hardest, are the following ones:
- 90/100;
- 50/70;
- 35/50.
Softer bitumens (150) are used for the emulsion S of bitumens or ECF.
