Paul Hillier

Paul Hillier , born the February 9th 1949 with Dorchester in England, is a Baryton and British Leader which specialized in the vocal baroque and contemporary Musique. He is the cofounder of the Hilliard Ensemble and founder of the Theater off Voices.

Biography

Hillier studied with the Guildhall School off Music before making his beginnings in 1974. The same year, it founds with Paul Elliot and David James the Hilliard Ensemble which will be an eminent vocal ensemble of the revival baroque of the Années 1980.

In 1989, it leaves Hilliard Ensemble and off founds the unit Theater Voices which is directed towards the contemporary vocal music, while becoming in particular the chorus of creations of Arvo Pärt and Steve Reich. More recently, he became the chief of the prestigious Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.

Since 1991, Paul Hillier records for the recording company Harmonia Mundi.
