Patrick Depailler is a French racing driver born the August 9th 1944 with Clermont-Ferrand (Auvergne), deceased the 1980 during a meeting of tests deprived on the Circuit of Hockenheim (Germany) with the wheel of a Alfa Romeo. Biography

Former motorcyclist, Patrick Depailler begins in 1964 in Formule 2 on the Circuit from Charade close to Clermont-Ferrand. He begins in Formule 1 into 1972 within the stable Tyrrell, thanks to the financial support of Elf and as a third pilot. He is established as from 1974, with the heavy spot to succeed François Cevert. Within a team which starts a slow decline, and often victim of a lack of chance, it must have patience until 1978 obtaining its first victory Formulates 1 of them, with the Grand Prix of Monaco 1978 at the wheel of the Tyrrell 008. Passed at Ligier the following year, it gains the Grand Prix of Spain and bases large hopes on its JS11, dominating at the beginning of season. But an accident of hang glider breaks the legs to him little before GP of France at semi-season and moves away it from the automobile competition until the end of the year.

It carries out its return into 1980 within the stable Alfa Romeo, but finds death during tests deprived on the Circuit of Hockenheim, one week before the Grand Prix of Germany. The reasons of the accident of the French pilot were never elucidated, even if it is very probable that a mechanical failure is in the beginning.
