Patator

The patator (also called lance-potato ) is an artisanal weapon, projecting with average outdistances a Projectile.

Operation

The principle lies in the expulsion of a potato (from where the name of the instrument) through a gun thanks to the push of Gaz contained in a room. It is appeared as a long tube equipped with a principal room, the projectile being located at the end.

One distinguishes the patators with Combustion, using lacquer or other flammable Aérosol, patators pneumatic, using beforehand compressed air or other gases, as well as chemical patators functioning with the famous mixture of Coke and mentos.

One allots the introduction of the patator in France to the cousin of Thierry Lhermitte, Arnaud Lhermitte. It presented on television with Alain Chabat on the chain Comédie!, the team which manufactured her clean patators, but nothing invented itself.

Increase in the performance

  • To use “dry” gases like the Butane. A wet gas like deodorizers would be likely to damage the electric ignition system.

  • To use Startpilot or ether like fuel gas.
  • Utiliser a rubber ball as projectile starts (in particular if this one is smaller than the diameter of the gun).
  • To increase dimensions of the room.
  • To clean the electrode S after each shooting with a metal brush.
  • To carry out a electrolysis in the tube in order to obtain a Combustive mixture of and Fuel in proportions stoechiometric.
  • To blow in the tube after each shooting to renew the Dioxygène in the room and to allow complete combustions. In a general way to air well the combustion chamber and the gun to remove the possible gas residues.
  • To surround potato of polyethylene film (often that of the bag containing potatos is appropriate).
  • To lengthen the gun.
  • To oil the gun to reduce frictions.
  • To take care to employ only materials and adhesives of quality.
  • To use an gasoline-oil mixture (for the two-stroke engine , for example), to vaporize with a spray (that of cleaning for panes for example). This increases the performances of the patator appreciably and allows the lubrication of the gun. To handle with many precautions.
  • To bore many holes of a diameter of 5mm over a length of 10% length of the gun at its end, that allows rebooster the explosion of gas when the potato arrives at the end of the gun.
  • To bring the mixture using a blowtorch oxygen-acetylene, without needing to degas the room each time; the mixture of these two gases is very effective.
  • To install a ventilator of computer in the room and to make it function after the injection of gas and closing and to stop it before the shooting, this technique makes it possible to homogenize the mixture (oxygen - gas) and to produce a more powerful explosion (attention! This technique can be implemented only with thick PVC, because it could not resist this explosion much stronger).
  • To create an electronic ignition to obtain a systematic explosion. Starting from a system of flash of camera followed by an opposite transformer or by short-circuiting in the combustion chamber of a condenser charged by an adapted circuit.
  • To obtain a relationship between the volume of the room with combustion and the volume of the gun of 1,7. (This report/ratio is called the ratio of the patator). This number is noted r.
One a: r = \ frac {V_ {room}} {V_ {gun}}

As recall, one also has: V_ {cylinder} = \ pi. R^2.h, with R, ray of the cylinder and h, height of the cylinder.

Pneumatic Patator

  • To oil the gun.

  • To lubricate the principal valve with product crockery (rather than of oil) to allow the valve to more easily open.
  • To use larger and more resistant pipes. The majority of the PVC pipes have a maximum resistance of 1.9 MPa. The largest pipes have a greater resistance and thus allow stronger pressures thus increasing the speed of potato.

Miniature Patator

A tube of adhesive UHU, a tube of eraser Reynold' S Magic +, cement, an electronic lighter of Lighter, a Domino and two small screws make it possible to build minis-patator of a range from approximately 10 to 50 m with less risks in handling.

Legislation

The patator is considered by the French law as a weapon of category VII (arms with destruction). The disclosure of the plans of the patator is not authorized any more. The detention or use of the patator is not prohibited but, nevertheless, the penal code prohibited to publish the plans with amateurs.

  • the incurred risks are for the minors: confiscation of the patator and a convocation with the police station with the parents.
  • For the major ones: confiscation of the patator and a convocation which can involve criminal prosecutions.
