Party of the national Coalition

The Kokoomus (shortened name, sometimes later on shortened in Kok. - in Finnish Kansallinen Kokoomus or in Swedish Samlingspartiet ), the party of the national Coalition, is a Political party Finnish, founded the December 9th 1918, mainly on the basis of Party Old man-Finnish (a party fennomane).

It is a party member of the European Popular party (EPP) and which regards as moderately preserving and European. With the international level, he is member of the international democratic Union. It is one of the three principal parties in Finland with the social democrats and the centrists. He obtains approximately a quarter of the voices and gained 50 deputies (out of 200) with the elections of 2007.

Although placed clearly on the right, it comprises in its center various currents: social reformism (in the area of Turku) or of traditional conservatism (northern of Finland and Lapland) to liberalism (area of Helsinki).

The current leader is Jyrki Katainen elected at this station in 2004.

The former president of the party is Ville Itälä which had obtained with the legislative elections of 2003 the second number of votes preferably (21 422 votes). He then presented himself to the elections of the the European Parliament where he was elected in 2004 among the four European deputies of Kokoomus:

  • Itälä City, vice-president of the group of the EPP
  • Piia-Noora Kauppi, member of the office of the EPP
  • Eija-Riitta Korhola,
  • Alexander Stubb.

Kokoomus obtained with these elections 23,7% of the voices (393 084 votes, are more than 80.000 votes compared to 1999).
