Paddle
The paddle is the instrument which makes it possible to operate and propel a Canoë, a Pirog, a Kayak, a Raft or more generally a Canot.
A paddle is distinguished from a Aviron by the fact that it does not take support on the boat. Pagayer characterizes the action to handle a paddle. To row or godiller respectively characterizes the handling of two or an oar.
Types of paddles
One distinguishes two principal types from paddle:- the simple paddle , made up of a blade and a handle belongs to the canoeist or to the raftor. One generally finds at the end of the sleeve a handle, called olive , allowing to hold the paddle more easily.
-
the paddle doubles , which has two blades, is used by the kayaker. These two blades can be in the same plan; it is the case of the paddle inuite. They can also form an angle between them around the handle to facilitate certain operations in river or to at sea reduce the catch to the wind. It is said whereas the paddle is crossed to distinguish it from the right paddle.
Models of paddles
There exists almost a model of paddle per discipline of the Canoe-kayak, one can quote the principal models:-
Paddle of Tourism, called plastic paddle , generally consisted of a handle out of tube of Aluminum plastic and blades. It is rather flexible, fragile and heavy, but has the advantage of having a weak cost and a good lifespan.
-
Paddle of Race in line, very light (700g), realized entirely in Carbon fiber and epoxy, it is very rigid but resists the shocks fairly. Its form very characteristic of him held for a long time the name of paddle spoon .
-
Pagaie of Slalom, more robust and door that the paddle of race on line, allowing fast running water operations. Some present a handle slightly bent making it possible to facilitate the catch in hand.
-
Paddle of sports shirt, very solid, allowing to receive the balloon and to strike it.
