Přemyslides

The Přemyslides (in Czech: Přemyslovci , in Polish: Przemyślidzi ) forms a royal Dynastie princely then which reigned on the Bohemia of the 9th century with 1306 and on Poland of 1300 to 1306.

Mythical ancestors

According to Cosmas of Prague, in its Chronica Boemorum , the surname comes from the name of the founder (largely mythical) from the dynasty, Přemysl, husband of Libuše.

Dukes of Bohemia

The first of Přemyslides is the duke Bořivoj Ier, baptized into 874 by Saint Method. In 895, Bohemia makes itself independent of the Grande Moravie.

Note linguistic

“Přemyslide” is an adjective, corresponding to the “Capétiens” of which they are the contemporaries. When one joins the dynastic name with the first name of the one of his members, one must write, for example, Ottokar Přemysl (just as one writes Hugues Capet) and not Ottokar Přemyslide.
