Pépérin
The Pépérin is a Volcanic rock maroon or gray that one finds in the Tuf.
The pépérin contains fragments of Basalte and Calcaire, as well as disseminated crystals of Augite, Mica, Magnétite, Leucite, and other minerals in the same way standard. One finds some mainly on the Mont Albain, close to Rome, or it was used by the Old ones under the name of lapis lazuli albanus , like material of manufacture of the basins of the fountains.
Other tuffs and conglomerate S of Auvergne and besides are called " pépérin" or " peperino" or " peperine". The name referred to the dark aspect of the stone which makes think of grains of Poivre.
