Ouvéa
Ouvéa is an island of the Pacific Ocean, most septentrional of the archipelago of the islands Loyauté, in the North-East of the Large-Ground of the New Caledonia.
Ouvéa is bordered in the west by broad a Lagon and a 25 km length beach. A group of small islands, the Pleiads, prolong the grounds in north and the south. The atoll consists of two parts, one in the south and the other in north, separated by a narrow isthmus. The two parts are connected today by the bridge of Mouli. The island is often presented like one of most beautiful the atolls of the Pacific, but it is not strictly speaking a Atoll because of its relief,
Ouvéa is also a commune whose administrative and demographic center is Fayahoué in the center of the island. The district of the northern part is Saint-Joseph. The current mayor is Boniface Ounou.
Linguistics
Two languages are spoken in Ouvéa, Iaai and the Western ouvéa (or Faga-uvea). The latter is a Polynesian language, definitely distinct from the other languages of New Caledonia (even if it belongs to the same family of the Langues austronésiennes). She is indeed close to the spoken languages with Wallis-and-Futuna.
