Ourasi

Ourasi (April 7th 1980 -) is a racehorse born in Saint-Etienne-the Allier. It is a trotter French chestnut horse flaring. It was called “the King Fainéant” to underline at the same time its indifference and its domination.

Origins

The Grandfather of Ourasi, Ura (father of Greyhound) is resulting from two champions: Carioca II and Grouse (prize winner of two prices of America) and the mother of Greyhound, Strada, was as for it a girl of the ace Jamin (twice victorious of the price of America).

The father of Ourasi, Greyhound was not an ace: he ran against the good horses of his generation, managing to place itself in thetraditional ones. The mother of Ourasi, Fleurasie was a very modest compétitrice, gaining three races on the whole before entering to the Haras, but his/her paternal grandfather was the father of Roquépine.

Ourasi had a sister of the name of Vourasie which was a mare of foreground, placed Price of America… It was beaten in particular by the Swedish mare Ina Scot (which allowed a woman, Helen Johansson to gain for the first time the Prix of America in 1995).

The owners of Ourasi, Rachel and Raoul Ostheimer do not found immense hopes in this foal, it is lazy and oaf… Rachel insists however to engage it in some races.

The first were not very convincing but as of its beginning in Vincennes under the drive one of the ace of the time Jean-Rene Gougeon it showed that it really left the ordinary one, so much is so that on February 12th, 1983 its entourage decided to put it at the beginning Critérium Young people the test which sees to clash best the three year old horses. Well took some to them since it allocated this test of a whole class…

Ourasi is holder of the greatest number of victories in the Prix of America, he was essential on four recoveries: 1986,1987,1988 (drivé by Jean-Rene Gougeon) and 1990 (drivé by Michel Marcel Gougeon says Minou).

Obligatorily with this prize list, the price of the horse increases, until reaching the historical records of 24 franc million. This stage, and in spite of the refusal of Rachel, Raoul Ostheimer decides to sell the baby for half: the shares of the champion will be divided between 40 different joint owners. The races of Ourasi are run to counter closed, PMU dream even sometimes to cancel the bets so much it does not have there more surprise with resulting from the race: It will be Ourasi.

In 1989: Price of America to the Hippodrome of Vincennes. Ourasi is obviously the big favorite, here are 3 years that it gains this race with an disconcerting ease. This victory at the price of America will be its 4th consecutive and will mark a record: never horse gained it 4 times! But here: a few days earlier Ourasi knew urinary problems which prevented it from urinating before the race. It finished 3rd whereas it was the favorite grandissime, beaten by the mare of Roger Baudron Queila Gédé and on the wire by Potin of Love! Little time after its faithful trainer-driver Jean-Rene Gougeon knew a cardiovascular accident which definitively drew aside it from the competition; as from this moment it was his/her brother Minou Gougeon who became the partner of Ourasi to the sulky.

Ourasi concludes its career in apotheosis on January 28th, 1990 by succeeding in the exploit to grant a fourth victory in the Price of America, it showed this day that it was well most extremely and that without problem edition 89 would not have him escaped…

In the tread it entâma a career of standard, for which it was very awaited, its projections were sold at ransom price, but the stop of the competition had very negative consequences on the moral one of the horse, it proved to be unfertile and had only very few foalta…

It runs since a peaceful retirement with the Haras of Gruchy in the Calvados a few kilometres from Bayeux.
