Oulianovsk
Oulianovsk ( Russian Ульяновск in ) is a town of Russia, on the the Volga. It is the administrative center of the Oblast d' Oulianovsk. It is to 893 km in the south-east of Moscow. The city was called Simbirsk ( Симбирск ) until in 1924. The city counts: 623100 in 2005.
History
The city was founded in 1648. It is in Oulianovsk which the revolt carried out by the chief cossack Stenka Razine began. At the end of the 18th century, the city became a center of exchanges for the area of the Volga. In 1864, it was mainly devastated by a fire.In 1924, after the death of Lénine, Simbirsk was renamed Oulianovsk in homage of Vladimir Ilitch Oulianov, said Lénine, which had been born there.
Economy
Oulianovsk is a river port and a rail junction. Industry includes/understands two important usines :- automobile Factory of Oulianovsk UAZ; * Complex Aviastar, one of largest and the most recent factories of the Russian aircraft industry. One built the Antonov Year-124 there. Flour mills and breweries supplement the economic activity.
Artistic inheritance
After the revolution of 1917, 33 orthodoxe basilicas were destroyed by the Bolsheviks. There exists however an important museum of arts which gathers immense collections withdrawn from the menchéviks and other noble families (Chinese porcelains, furniture, tables). It was founded and built by a subscription of the inhabitants.
