Oudong
The site of Oudong is located at the north of Phnom Penh, on Western bank of the Tonle Sap. Old capital of the Kampuchea at the 17th century then of 1740 to 1746, Oudong is one of the necropoles monumental of the royalty.
Old capital of the kingdom, Oudong was rested by the king Soryopor in 1601. It is built on a hill to 40 km in the north of Phnom Penh. The king Ang Duong (1841-1850), large builder, carried out channels, terraces, bridges and set up a hundred pagodas in this area, of which the number was to surprise and fill with wonder formerly the visitors.
Although it remains today only little of vestiges, Oudong is still attended by the Khmers who come to pay homage to their former kings while collecting themselves in front of their Stupa S (Buddhist monument of conical form).
